Hacettepe University Mechanical Engineering Mechanical Laboratory

Our Mechanical Laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art devices designed to accurately determine the mechanical properties of composite materials. It serves as a modern infrastructure that supports both academic and industrial research. The laboratory acts as a hub for national and international research projects while also providing undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to complement their theoretical knowledge with practical experience.

Laboratory Features and Equipment

  1. Mechanical Testing Device::

  • This device, with a maximum load capacity of 100 kN, precisely measures the tensile, compressive, and bending behaviors of composite materials.
  • With its user-defined programmable load application feature, it enables advanced tests such as stress relaxation and creep.
  • Equipped with hydraulic grips, the system ensures uniform clamping of specimens, enhancing the accuracy of test results.
  1. Video Extensometer and Digital Image Correlation System (DIC):

  • This camera-based system observes local deformations in specimens during tests, providing detailed strain analyses.
  • Equipped with two high-resolution (12 MPx) cameras and specialized software, this system offers precise data that aids in optimizing design and production processes.

Academic and Industrial Applications

The tests conducted in our laboratory add value to graduate-level research and collaborative projects with industrial companies. The determination of the mechanical properties of composite materials enables innovative engineering designs. Additionally, the laboratory is actively utilized in undergraduate capstone projects and graduate thesis studies.

Ongoing Projects

Currently, our laboratory has successfully completed the infrastructure project titled "Investigation of the Mechanical Behavior of Composite Materials Using Video Extensometer and Digital Image Processing Methods," conducted in collaboration with the Turkish Aeronautical Association University. The equipment acquired through this project has transformed our laboratory into a research center driven by advanced technology.

Our Goals

In addition to research in the field of composite materials, our laboratory aims to develop infrastructure that can also be utilized in disciplines such as dentistry and medicine. In this context, we plan to contribute to other faculties within our university through interdisciplinary collaborations.
